Close your eyes

take my hand

breathe in the memories

was it all we planned?

 

we were on fire

revered by all

we wrote the book

we defined protocol

 

we loved, oh we did

to depths unknown

yet, in our core

we were still alone

 

we both had our dragons

neither could slay

I couldn't say when

it all went astray

 

we were together
I forget the rest

but for all of our time

we tried our best

 

they'll ask what went wrong

but our lips are sealed

neither is to blame
no missteps revealed

 

open your eyes

squeeze my hand

leave them with this:

our love was a wonderland.
