Faith

~ Faith ~

She wore faith like a gossamer wrap
fragile and delicate
yet of such beauty
she did her best to protect it

time and again
she fought against the winds
- of change, of reason, of doubt -
her faith fluttering about her shoulders
threatening to float away.
she sought the wisdom of the moon
to hold on tighter

the moon whispered down to her:
sometimes,
you have to let go, to hold on

she wavered
when had the moon ever delivered?
then she wondered
if perhaps the moon always had
but she had been too focused to see

her ideals and hopes
dance on the wind
lifting and teasing her faith
she wants what she cannot see
and she cannot see what she wants

she doubles down on the moon
releasing her grasp
she gives freedom to her faith
and come the dawn
what will be, will be.

Sieze Upon the Midnight

~ Seize Upon the Midnight ~

From the terrace
I beseech the moon
to seize upon the midnight
to call upon her empire
of glistening stars
and whispering breezes
for her to align the planets
and for Fate and Destiny to dance
across moonbeams and the Milky Way
to illuminate the path of hearts in waiting

the time is almost upon us again
the tantalizing allure of midnight
that breath of space
between yesterday and tomorrow
between hope and resignation
where a million and one possibilities
wait on the edge of their seats
to fulfill the prophecy of the moment

but the moon does no such thing
and hides behind her shadow
counting down the seconds
until it is too late again

her empire falls
and I am alone
in the quiet darkness
of another midnight
slipping away.

Vermilion Moon

~ Vermilion Moon ~

She returned to the place it all started
and knelt under the canopy of stars
palms to ground, she bowed her head
shielding her sight from the celestial display
of a moon bathed in iridescent hopes
that has only ever passed her by

with accusing eyes, she looked up
imploring to know why?
why has the moon forsaken her
after all the secrets told
and all the wishes wished;
all she released to the moon
garnered her only silence in return

the stars are taken aback
by the moon's apparent disregard;
ashamed for their unwitting part
in dreams unfulfilled
they flee the sky

and under the weight
of a thousand empty promises
the moon turned vermilion

morose is the night
with no solace to offer
the vermilion moon
hangs heavy in the sky
seeking atonement
that never comes.

Upon the Midnight

"So quick bright things come to confusion"
- William Shakespeare (A Midsummer's Night Dream)

~ Upon the Midnight ~

Bewitching hour, misbehavior
the moon no longer acts as savior
noble words and deeds pass on
the knight has sacrificed the pawn

where Hope was worshipped
Fate's wings now clipped
instinct to shut down
watch the stars drown

shrouded in darkness
no one to address
not eye to eye
nor soul to sky

bewitching hour, misbehavior
the moon no longer acts as savior.

~ Gypsy Moon~

~ Gypsy Moon ~

Fortune teller
gypsy moon
lure of enchantment
all a ruse

the night deceives
like gypsy thieves
gambled youth
bleeds with truth

silence echoes
whispers unfold
unrelenting
unto themselves

Faith leaves
and the heart grieves
promises become cliché
the moon slinks away

damn the heavens
fuel the clouds
feel the absence
crashing down

the moon returned
unconcerned
another night
another slight.
