"But only in their dreams can men be truly free.
It was always thus and always thus will be"
(Robin Williams)
~ Decimated Daisies ~
Deep in the realm of fairytales
where truth is dreamt and dreams are true
unchained hearts float through the sky
free to love, received in kind
suspended in make-believe
we reveled in the fantasy
scripting a life together
you were the pen, I drank your words
you painted flowers on my soul
daisies for pureness and light of heart
I would have traded a kingdom
to follow you on paths unknown
but fairytales aren't without peril;
our story turned from lush to grey
with the invasion of reality
the pen went dry, the pages bare
unchained hearts? a broken dream
echoes in the stillness of your absence
leaving me alone, a soul full of daisies
each with an even number of petals.

Thanks, Irene. This is a tough one for me to go back and read.
DeleteI will not give away the mystery of closure in the opening commentary. Rather, I will leave it to the readers to deciminate for themselves... Lucky will be those who just do not get it.
ReplyDeleteI get it, admittedly...
Great poem, Dahlia.

oops! I was so caught up in this and then I started counting daisy petals and missed the fact that you stated you did not use the easy point, my bad!
Deletecorrected points awarding: subtract the 8 and add 7 points Earthling! :/
Marvin

Delete"Each with an even number of petals" That line says it all and more
ReplyDeleteThat idea occurred to me earlier when I was on the treadmill. I knew it had to go in a poem somewhere. *sighs*
