Walk Unafraid

Walk unafraid
let go of the past
and learn to get out of your own way
(I'm working on that one)

vow to explore one new place a month
be it a sleepy little community
or an exciting city
or that park across town
that you've been meaning to get to

don't be a brat, face your insecurities
you are stronger than they are
and they are not the boss of you

let your mind
your heart
your dreams
wander

Fear nothing.
except for spiders
there's just no getting around some shit.

life becomes carefree
senses tease, lovers please
sail away with me

mystic ease, moments to seize
a wanderlust potpourri
private reprise, love's guarantees
never say never to me.

The Other Side of the Moon

Windswept tears and boomerang fears
clears, but never quite disappears
seeking ways to become immune
on the other side of the moon

hiding here, but throwing clues there
juxtaposed desires ensnare
the heart, it retreats into a cocoon
on the other side of the moon

look for truth behind the danger
pay homage to love, the stranger
to hearts that land wherever strewn
on the other side of the moon

windswept tears and boomerang fears
on the other side of the moon.

Starlit Dreams

Once upon a time
on a starlit night
I dreamt of you

I didn't know you, of course
you were only a figment
of the moon and the stars
a gentle breeze that I could feel
but couldn't hold

I imagined
a mischievous smile in the twinkling lights
a loving heart as wide as the indigo sky
and a kind soul as soothing as the moon

I traced lines in the sky
drawing a path
through the universe
that might lead me to you

you may say I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
for as long as the stars and the moon
inhabit the sky
romantics will trace their silhouettes
and try to connect the dots.

Moon to Moon

~ Moon to Moon ~

Sitting in a clearing
my heart sees the fern at the edges
intricate as lace and soft as silk
oh, my heart longs to lie in its luxury
to get lost in teal-colored dreams
and let my heart sail to a faraway land
where it is only me and him
at the beginning of our own era

but the dreams are a sham
and I awake in the rain

my brain is my prison cell
and I am lost in a maze
of my own doing

I react
but I do not err on the side of caution
instead, my body begins to arch
in anticipation of my impetuousness
I con myself into thinking
there is no other way
and I aim for the moon
lashing out in desperation
into the ail storm I've created

I intended to pit crater against crater
(the one where my heart used to reside
against the one in the sky)

but my battle cries ring thin
as I realize in my gut
that the moon has not forsaken me
and this was the beginning to an end

crater to crater
becomes moon to moon
and neither moon will die tonight

my pain begins to ebb
spent, I look up at the moon
and for the first time,
I listen

the rain turns to mist
the air turns sweet
and I see

I am the indigo of the night
I am the dewdrops on the fern
I am the moon in my heart
And he is now a memory

I apologize to the moon
said I never meant her any ill will
'keep me strong' I asked of her
as I turned to move on

I didn't look back
but I knew she followed me
and I heard her when she whispered
with the gentlest of breezes
"as you wish."

Bell, Book and Candle

Bell, book and candle
some say spell, I say scandal
on this theory, you have no handle
best left to your neighborhood vandal

Under cover of thunder, he'd storm inside
watching his back as he'd spin side to side
breaking and stealing things, he was quite satisfied
then he pushed over a bookcase, exposing a bride

She slipped into an alcove, the vandal intrigued
he didn't stop to think he was out of his league
until he followed her in and hit a wall of fatigue

"Why am I so tired?" he asked as he fell
the bride smirked and said "welcome to Hell
t'was not meant for you but, meh, a farewell is farewell"
and that that she reached for an intricate bell

He could see the bell's symbols from where he lay
and knew its evils, when summoned, would not disobey
but to death he defiantly said "not today!"

Giving the room a desperate look
he searched for anything to get him off the hook
his eyes spied an object over the bride, in a nook
perched precariously on a shelf, was a giant book

She followed his gaze and said with a laugh
"what, you want to read?  Don't be daft.
Now, what would you like written on your epitaph?"

Remembering the candle he stole from the hall
he sought to find a way to stall
he'd need momentum as the candle was small
but if he threw it just right, that book might fall

"You've such a beautiful dress," he said with a smile
the bride blushed for a moment, caught up in his guile
she gave him an inch, and he took a mile

He leapt to his feet and she took a step back
caught unaware, she didn't expect this attack
she lunged for the bell, but he was no hack
he heaved the candle, and it struck with a smack

Now he had aimed for the book, but instead struck her head
he watched as she fell, not sure if she bled
but he didn't stick around to see if she was dead

Bell, book and candle - the theories abound
the quest nearly put him under the ground
it was a lesson he vowed to expound:
don't seek that which should never be found.

Color Me / Color You

~ Color Me / Color You ~

Jump
then fall
color me
with the magic
of new beginnings
encompass me with blue
(a love deep as the ocean)
share with me all your shades of red
(the hues where romance and passion meet)
trust me with white, that I may cradle it
(goodness of heart, purity of the soul)
don't fear to burden me with your black
(pain and fear can be overcome)
and I will give you yellow
(days marked by happiness)
safety and wellness
(with all my greens)
jump; let me
color
you.

Errant Moon

~ Errant Moon ~

Under the guise of romance
the moon pulled me from my sleep
my heart never stood a chance

a victim of circumstance
wayward bound, lessons aren't cheap
under the guise of romance

the moon calls, and I advance
no looking back, in too deep
my heart never stood a chance

I pause, promises enhance
I see their allure, and leap
under the guise of romance

dawn breaks to release the trance
laugh's on me, nothing to keep
my heart never stood a chance

errant moon, a sideways glance
with recycled tears, I weep
under the guise of romance
my heart never stood a chance.

Letters to the Moon

~ Letters to the Moon ~

My Dearest Moon,

About last night...
You sent me the perfect dream
you lit the candles, and set the scene
and though I couldn't quite make out his face in the shadows
I knew his soul mirrored mine.
It was an enchanted moment,
and it sees me through the day.
Thank you for the wonderful gift.

     Fondly, a Dreamer

Dear Moon,

About last night...
I have to thank you, for your guidance
'trust your heart, let Fate decide'
you whispered in my dream.
I never would have found her
if it hadn't been for you.

Best regards, a Listener

My Dearest Moon,

About last night...
It was just a prelude, right?
An introduction, of sorts,
to the rest of my life?
As the dusk grows darker
I have to wonder
will I see him again tonight?

     Fondly, a Dreamer

Dear Moon,

About last night...
I surrendered to you
and lost my heart to her.
I've heard no one has the same dream twice
but if you don't mind
could you take me there again?

Best regards, a Listener

My Dearest Moon,

About last night...
You left a bit of mystery
as to who my love might be.
If I could just ask this one favor
- a bit of clarity
so I may find him in your absence.

     Fondly, a Dreamer

Dear Moon,

About last night...
I get it now.
The light you showed me, was hers.
A reflection of love
you bounced straight to me;
and now, I know the way.

Best regards, a Listener

My Dearest Moon,

About last night...
I understand your gift now.
Before, where I couldn't see his face
the shadows were mine.
I had to clear the cobwebs
to open my eyes to him.
I know, I shall see him again.

     Fondly, a Dreamer

p.s.  Until tomorrow night...

Vintage Lies

They weren't particularly clever
the words you laid before me
yet I was blind to your endeavor
to lure me out to sea

I hadn't time to raise my guard
so quick and earnest you appeared
I gave my safety no regard
as the shoreline disappeared

I basked in adoration
in the gentle waves of your caress
you spoke with such elation
I saw no reason for distress

our future seemed so flawless
as we swam together in bliss
me on the back of your promise
tenderly sealed with a kiss

cerulean waters and crystalline dreams
white freesia breezes on our skin
is love as simple as it seems,
or did it ever really begin?

your presentation, so appealing
was intended for different eyes
to win back another's feelings
you hooked me with your vintage lies

treading water, I was suddenly alone
not knowing why you had gone
all your lies turned to stone
and I struggled through the dawn

I called for you, begging to know why
but you were nowhere to be found
you couldn't even say goodbye
you just left me there to drown.

Abundant Heart

~ Abundant Heart ~

Build me with love, strengthen me with hope
shape me by the colors of diversity...

you'd risk your life to fight for me
and help to keep our country free
a Soldier foremost, no place for labels
honor knows no gender identity

love who you will, I'll bake you that cake
to celebrate joy is never a mistake
A common thread, a simple right:
to live and love in equality

abundant hearts should not be denied
protections redacted, Lady Liberty cried
when we deny the American Dream
we've closed the door on humanity

inward, not outward, is where it begins
see the beauty of color on different skins
we are different and we are the same
unite and embrace in mutuality

build me with love, strengthen me with hope
shape me by the colors of diversity

what was lost by ignorance and hate
will always be found again by love.

The Bucket Moon

~ The Bucket Moon ~

In indigo dreams, I carry you
a vision, transpired by moonlight
into something I can hold

there is no space between us
perchance, there never was
celestial eyes have always seen
that which we never could

in between breaths
the breeze softly sighs
rippling moonbeams
across the sky

contentment echoes through the night
as stars gather in gratitude
simpatico with the moon
and I know I have been blessed

I look into my bucket, past the moon and the stars
and the rippled moonbeams
there, in my indigo dreams,
I see you.

Diaphanous Heart

~ Diaphanous Heart ~

Diaphanous heart, sheltered deep
protected only when I sleep
walk no more tightrope in the grey
just one more dream, then break away

I have some scars from where I've been
I know I'll walk that path again
a heart's yearning, love will betray
just one more dream, then break away

trapped by my past, sometimes I wish
to emerge from this chrysalis
and fly away from yesterday
just one more dream, then break away

diaphanous heart, sheltered deep
just one more dream, then break away

Sojourn with the Devil

~ Sojourn with the Devil ~

"Name your price" the devil said, "and you can have it all"
he looked at me intently, wanting me to fall
but I could hear the sunlight, banging on the wall
it wasn't over yet, I just needed time to stall

they say all things are cyclical
and I've been ever cynical
the devil's promise... so cryptical
and my next move is critical

I listen for the sunlight, it whispers your name
the devil's eyes light up, he knows how to play this game
"it's cyclical" he tells me, "it always ends the same"
I search deep within and wonder where to lay the blame

the room grows darker, I'm losing the sun
walls are closing in, there's nowhere to run
time seems to be over before it's begun
the devil smiles gleefully, thinking he's won

but he doesn't have me yet, and watches in dismay
as I fall to my knees and begin to pray
it's not a long walk if you meet me halfway
don't be the sun that fades away.

Moon Song

~ Moon Song ~

I used to know a hundred songs
that gave me hope to right the wrongs
I'd serenade the moon each night
but one by one, they weren't quite right

somewhere in between you and me
she's hidden a song, in her key
I searched each place within my sight
but one by one, they weren't quite right

she said to listen, close my eyes
but I could only agonize
I sought answers to ease my plight
but one by one, they weren't quite right

I used to know a hundred songs
but one by one, they weren't quite right.

Fire and Wind

~ Fire and Wind ~

You are fire and wind
elements that ignite me

fiery passion
temperatures rise
your breeze becomes a tempest
I become lost in your storm
and it's contagious

your smile, so warm
heats up each path it travels
it eludes me now
and I tremble

your touch, but a whisper
it passes right through me
as if I wasn't there

you are fire and wind
elements that destroy me

I stand in your arena
the seeing, and unseen,
walk - don't run
I hesitate
(do you remember me?)

fan the flames
keep the scars
the warning flashes in the sky

tempt the tempest
seal my fate
what have I become?

you circle me
I feel your heat
not sure I can resist

you reach for me
I say a prayer
and enter into the storm.
