Night Echoes

~ Night Echoes ~

Beneath the barren moon
the night echoes with sacrifice
and not even the forest breeze
can coax forth the breath
she didn't realize she was holding

Footsteps only she can hear
relentless in her head
though his or hers, she isn't sure
she only knows the weight they bear
and the price of silence

Death by doubt - of heart or flesh,
the end result's the same
as it feeds on misconceptions;
a slow decline into wasted land
from which she cannot walk away

Beneath the barren moon
the sound of footprints fades
resolute, in their departure
and the collective sigh of dreams unrealized
filters out on the forest breeze.

The Sound of Grey

~ The Sound of Grey ~

There's a place where the moon shines grey
where silence sings and emptiness rings
a haunting place for haunted hearts
seeking refuge from their own disarray

Cry baby cry
cry for a shadow disguised as hope
cry as edges blur on a downward slope
cry when dreams falter and you cannot cope
cry baby cry
but there'll be no reply

Between black and white, intent loses its way
words curl up and drift away
their meaning lost when no one stays
and she circles back around to yesterday

Yesterday, yesteryear - when did it start?
she carries the weight of the devil in her heart
insecurities bleed through wounds that won't heal
as he strengthens his hold, truth become surreal

Cry baby cry
cry for a memory you once held dear
cry for a time when you loved without fear
cry for a way to be reassured
cry baby cry
but there'll be no reply.

Forsaken

~ Forsaken ~

A well-worn path cuts through the night
heart to moon, begs to understand
how tides turn on nocturnal dreams
to unravel on the morning’s light

Time contradicts, and negates the years
where happiness danced; but it cannot unsee
and now it hangs, a mocking presence
through a mist that tastes of tears

Only questions remain, born of the heart’s folly
a gentle breeze, touched by sorrow, stops to listen
but the moon has no answers
and her silence sings melancholy.

At Land's End

~ At Land’s End ~

I’m searching for a brand new world
to live and love with souls unfurled
look inside and you will find me
at land’s end, where I am most free

Essence captured, no need to roam
a place to make and call my home
share my sight, and feel what I see
at land’s end, where I am most free

Kiss the sunlight, sing to the sky
love in freedom, and don’t ask why
watch my heart soar (does yours agree?)
at land’s end, where I am most free

I’m searching for a brand new world
at land’s end, where I am most free

In Darkness and Love

~ In Darkness and Love ~

I saw you through the clouds of someone else’s fears
in that place where all reason disappears
dark and brooding, misunderstood
a dark angel, they saw more harm than good

You looked right at me, I couldn’t move
battle of wills, what had we each to prove
that I would abandon all for you
and to me you would never be untrue

A pact was made, lives to rewrite
we’d come together upon midnight
you told me sleep, and then I’d see
in a dream, you’d come for me

When the dream came, I held my breath
you whispered “forever starts with death”
with my eyes closed I went insane
the transition nearly inhumane

I saw my funeral, mourners wept
an unexplained end they could not accept
helpless, I watched them from above
if only I could tell them I’d died for love

You watched me wrestle with my grief
and compared yourself to a lowly thief
for selfish reasons, stealing me away
just so you could love me without delay

I saw your truth, and I remembered
that my days on earth were always numbered
it would have been a matter of chance
as to when, or if, I’d find true romance

My face the world will soon forget
and I’ll follow you, with no regret
to hear my name, forever from your lips
as we love in the shadows of our souls’ eclipse

Command your cards (for Blogophilia)

Elevate a jack to a king
wonder why he does not sing
realize the truth he tried to distort
you never held the same court…

Refuse to bow to any queen
laugh at restrictions, sight unseen
wear independence as a second skin
you hold the power within

Love the joker who called your bluff
ignore your heart when it cries ‘enough’
listen when it makes no sense
you could always climb over that fence

Believe the truth within your soul
restore conviction in every goal
remember life is yours to embrace
you always hold the ace.
