The Angel and the Hound

~ The Angel and the Hound ~

On the wings of transgression, an angel flies
while the night is still young
hope is not lost

she knew that fire burned him, burned within him,
and that wildfire would push him to the edge
she also knew his goodness was inherent
and she sought to save him from himself

breaking through the glass separating duty from morality
she touches him, and plants a seed
clarity cannot be seen in chaos
but it can be nurtured to survive

it is a long path they walk
on the edge of redemption
pushed back by malevolence
blinded by retaliation
but never completely lost

the seed has taken root
a greater purpose has been seen
questions and doubts plague him
yet, his compassion grows

the future is fraught with danger
both from outside and within
she offers her protection
and imparts on him his value

she remains his angel
a savior by his side

Night Song / Aria of the Moon

~ Night Song / Aria of the Moon ~

In the darkness of night, life slows down
the moon comes out and plays her song
love, that moves the sun and other stars,
is the refrain I try to sing along

her melody, haunting
her lyrics, my own
her reach, universal
her resolution, unknown

she knows the depth of my truth:
I'm living on dreams and chains
she seeks to adjust the rhythm
so only the music remains

the night fades and the moon turns away
her back to me, she scans far and wide
as my dawn becomes another's dusk
she hears lyrics that cannot be denied

love can move the universe
and the sun and the stars play a part
no doubt or chains can stop her
when the moon has faith in the heart.

To Dream

~ To Dream ~

A face in the crowd
tethered at home
watching from afar
wherever you roam

unparalleled dreams
in a parallel land
what is chance
but destiny unmanned

hope becomes an addiction
I cannot set free
I would risk my heart
to see you, see me.

The Silent Love

~ The Silent Love ~

In closeness, nonchalant
but from afar, truth speaks
though only when there is no breeze
to carry my secrets away from me

friendships have been lost
in such unveilings
a price too high to pay again
my confession dies upon my lips

friendship to admiration to love
we have not followed the same path
the end justifies the means
longevity remains paramount

love is in the eye of the beholder
inside our hearts, where passion breathes
within a grasp held tenderly, lies a strength:
to love through pain, to love through time

if you don't receive it back
is it any less a love?

Soul Chasers

~ Soul Chasers ~

Through indigo skies
the hibiscus sighs
seducing the air
her scent everywhere

the whippoorwill calls
my soul stumbles, and falls
I question my mind
you answer, in kind

lost song of lovers
the melody uncovers
would you not follow
leave me sad and hollow

chasing a soul
I cannot control
the power not mine
to realign

through indigo skies
I recognize
the scent of destruction
lured by seduction

I counter, with grace
you bow and embrace
the light that I sought
my wandering, for naught.

In the Light of Darkness

"I was never really insane,
except on occasions where my heart was touched"
- Edgar Allen Poe -

Under cover in the shadows
the edges of reality blur
reason cannot breathe
but my vision is crystal clear

I know the road well
mapped out by my heart
from pieces of my past
all u-turn ramps eroded
by the bridges that I've burned

I am weightless in this void
where love cannot find me
freedom from the madness
that grounds you with its touch

I own my darkness
and revel in its grasp
solitude calls 'shotgun'
and we ride without looking back.

Wicked Sun Lying Moon

~ Wicked Sun Lying Moon ~

There's a place I seek
between day and night
where there is no darkness
and there is no light

there's no sun to lure you
touting warmth like a song
only to burn you
if you stay too long

the moon you can't trust
to bury your scars
she asks for your wishes
then keeps them trapped in the stars

promises broken before they begin
dreams falter as the grey seeps in...

the sun is shining
or so I've been told
in seeking its heat
I became lost in the cold

I sought truth in the night
and saw the moon as my guide
"never say never" she'd whisper
until I realized she lied

I cannot forgive the moon her indiscretions
nor look beyond the sun's harsh lessons

limbo is a place
between slim and none
where there is no pain to heal
because no damage has been done

no day or night
to count or compare
in the belly of submission
you will find me there.
